Some Things that you may not have known.

If you cop a speeding fine and it is in the low offence range, costing up to $200, Motorists assume that to just pay it and get it out of the road is the best option.  You need to be aware that unlike points racked up in a 3 year period, each time you are fined it goes down as a black mark on your driving history… for life.  What you may also not be aware of is that you are supposed to notify your vehicle comprehensive insurance company each and every time you get booked or commit a traffic offence and have either been convicted of it or simply paid the fine.

When you take out a vehicle insurance policy, all major companies here in Australia have a clause about disclosure that states all traffic offences in the last five years must be disclosed.  It also states that they must be kept abreast of all fines incurred.  If you do not do this and are unlucky enough to get involved in an accident or have your car stolen or damaged….they will wipe you and not pay out!

If you are unlucky enough to lose your license through accrual of demerit points or a high speed offence, you are very unlikely to find an insurer for your vehicle as they will judge you to be a bad risk.  This is particularly applicable to DUI offences.
You may not know that with recent legislation passed, if you  are booked for an offence 15kmh or over the speed limit, then your next offence will be an automatic double demerit points.  If that secondary offence occurs on a double demerit weekend then you can very likely lose your license in one hit…

Think carefully about the repercussions next time one of those pesky camera offences comes in the mail or you are booked for a small fine speeding offence, paying it is seen as an admission of guilt and it just may come back to bite you in the future.
